Commercial auto for Auburndale businesses
Auburndale is on central Florida’s main freight routes. I-4 runs just north of town, U.S. 92 links it to Lakeland and Lake Alfred, the Polk Parkway gives a quick toll route to I-4, and State Road 559 heads up to Polk City. The city markets itself for supply chain and distribution, and Medline is one of the companies that opened a distribution center here. Auburndale is also a partner in the Central Florida Innovation District near SunTrax and Florida Polytechnic University.
We are an independent agency based in Wesley Chapel. We quote Auburndale businesses with several carriers and help small fleets set up coverage that fits how they really work.
The businesses behind the warehouses
Big distribution centers depend on a lot of small companies to keep running, such as:
- Courier and expedited freight vans running parts and paperwork
- Forklift, dock door and HVAC repair trucks
- Pallet, packaging and cleaning services
- Staffing vans that bring workers to each shift
Each of these drives a different pattern. A courier van may cover a couple hundred miles a day, while a repair truck may make three stops. Tell us which one you are, and if you do a mix, how a normal week breaks down. If you mostly serve one warehouse on steady routes, say so. That can look very different to an underwriter than a van that takes whatever calls come in.
Cargo vans and courier work
If you run cargo vans for courier or expedited work, carriers want to know whose goods you carry, how many stops you make, and whether you work under your own name or for a delivery platform or broker. Working through a platform or broker can change who insures what, so send us the agreement. Our page for courier services goes deeper.
Freight in the van is not usually covered by the auto policy. If a customer asks you to carry cargo coverage, find out what limit they need before we quote. Shelving, ladder racks and partitions add value to a van, so list them and keep the value on the policy close to what it would cost to replace.
Staff vans and passengers
If your business drives workers to a warehouse shift, the van is carrying passengers, and carriers look at that very differently from a van full of boxes. Tell us the number of seats, how many riders go on a typical trip, who drives, and whether riders pay anything. Some carriers do not write passenger work at all, so the details narrow the list early.
Drivers who carry people should have clean records and experience with that size of van. Send their license information before they start, and tell us if the van runs late night or early morning shifts.
Employees’ own cars
A lot of warehouse support work happens in personal vehicles: a manager driving to another site, a technician picking up a part, a supervisor dropping off paperwork. If there is a crash on the way, the injured person may go after your business, not just the driver. Hired and non-owned auto coverage is built for that gap. Depending on the carrier, it may be added to a commercial auto policy or to a general liability or business owner’s policy.
A simple written rule helps too: employees who drive their own cars for work keep their own insurance active and send you a copy each year. Also ask about rentals. If you rent a box truck for a busy week, the coverage sold at the rental counter and your own policy may not line up.
Vendor rules at distribution centers
Large distribution centers usually have vendor rules. Before you get a gate badge, you may need a certificate showing auto liability, general liability and workers’ compensation, sometimes with the owner named as additional insured and a waiver of subrogation. Some want certificates sent straight from the agent.
Send us the vendor packet and we will tell you what fits the policy you have, what the carrier can add, and what it may cost. Access can be held up when a certificate expires, so we track your renewal date and send updated certificates before the old ones run out. Our certificate guide explains the common requests.
Growing from one van to a fleet
Many businesses start with one van and add more as contracts grow. Each time you add a vehicle, call us before it goes to work. Many policies give a short window to report a new vehicle, but the details vary, and you do not want to find out after a crash.
When you reach several units, a small fleet policy can make tracking easier. We review your limits at the same time, because bigger contracts often come with bigger limit requirements. It also helps to set written rules for your drivers early, before the fleet gets big: who can drive, phone use, and what to do after an accident.
Serving Auburndale and nearby communities
We work with businesses in Auburndale and nearby Lake Alfred, Polk City, Lakeland and Winter Haven, from warehouse parks near I-4 and the Polk Parkway to shops along U.S. 92.
To start a quote, send your vehicle list with VINs, your drivers with license numbers, where each vehicle parks at night, your usual routes and any vendor or contract insurance requirements. If a new contract is coming, tell us how many vehicles and drivers it will add. Call or text 813-302-7151.
What businesses in Polk County pay for insurance
These ranges come from real quotes our agency has run for businesses across Polk County, which includes Auburndale. Prices are annual and include taxes and fees. Your price can land outside them, because vehicles, drivers, payroll and claims usually matter more than the ZIP code. We don’t have enough local commercial auto quotes to publish a county range yet, so use the per-vehicle ranges in our cost guide.
- General liability$600 to $3,500 / yearAbout $50 to $300 a month.
- Workers' compensation$1,500 to $8,000 / yearAbout $120 to $670 a month.

I do courier runs for a delivery app. Is my personal policy enough?
Often not. Many personal policies limit or exclude delivery for pay, and the app’s coverage may apply only at certain times. Send us the app or broker agreement and we will show you where the gaps are.
Do I need coverage if employees only use their own cars for work errands?
Ask us to review it. Hired and non-owned auto coverage can protect the business when an employee’s personal car is used for work. The employee’s own policy usually pays first, and this coverage helps protect the business beyond that.
The distribution center wants certificates sent directly from you. Can you do that?
Yes. Send us the vendor’s contact and requirements, and we send the certificate from our office. A certificate only shows coverage that is on the policy, so we check the requirements first.
Can I add a van I just bought today?
Usually, yes. Send us the VIN, the purchase price and who will drive it. Call before it goes to work so the carrier has it on file.
Does it matter if my vans park at home or at a warehouse?
Yes. Carriers price by where vehicles are garaged, and some ask about security at that location. Give us the real overnight address for each vehicle.
