Commercial auto for Brooksville businesses
Brooksville is the county seat of Hernando County, and three highways meet near its downtown: U.S. 41, U.S. 98 and State Road 50. Head east on State Road 50 toward I-75, or west toward the Suncoast Parkway and Spring Hill. Around town you will find rock and cement trucks, ready-mix, contractors, county work and an airport business park, all sharing the same rolling two-lane roads.
We are an independent agency based in Wesley Chapel, in Pasco County. We quote Brooksville businesses with several carriers and help you choose a policy that fits the hauling and work you really do.
Rock, cement and ready-mix
Cemex runs a cement plant, an aggregate quarry and a ready-mix operation in Brooksville, and the work around them keeps a lot of heavy trucks moving: dump trucks hauling rock, ready-mix trucks, tankers, and the mechanics and haulers who support them.
If you haul aggregate or run mixers, carriers will ask what you haul, who owns the load, how many loads you run a day, how far each load goes, and whether you haul for others for pay. Hauling for others is usually treated as for-hire trucking, which is underwritten differently from carrying material for your own jobs. See our page on dump truck insurance for more.
Mixers and dump trucks also spend part of the day on job sites, backing around crews and other equipment. Tell us how much time your trucks spend off the road.
Weight, limits and Florida law
For heavier trucks, Florida sets higher minimum liability by weight. Florida Statutes s. 627.7415 requires at least $50,000 per occurrence for a commercial motor vehicle of 26,000 pounds or more but under 35,000 pounds, $100,000 for 35,000 pounds or more but under 44,000 pounds, and $300,000 for 44,000 pounds or more. Trucks covered by federal motor carrier rules must meet the federal minimums.
A loaded dump truck on State Road 50 can do far more damage than those minimums pay. Many jobs ask for higher limits, so we quote a few options and show you the difference in price. Send each truck’s gross vehicle weight rating so we can match the limit to the truck.
The airport business park
Hernando County’s economic development office names aviation and aerospace, manufacturing, and distribution and logistics as key industries. The Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport and Technology Center, southwest of downtown, has a number of aviation businesses and has land set aside for more. Companies there run delivery vans, parts runs, box trucks and service vehicles out to I-75 and the Suncoast.
If your drivers go onto the airfield or near aircraft, tell us. Some auto policies treat that differently, and an airport lease may set its own insurance requirements. Manufacturers that deliver only their own products should say so, because that is rated differently from hauling for others.
Rural roads and trailers
Outside town, a lot of Brooksville work happens on two-lane county roads: landscaping, land clearing, fencing, tree services and farm support. Those jobs usually mean a pickup and a trailer, often carrying equipment worth more than the truck. List every trailer with its VIN. The mowers, chippers and skid steers on it usually need inland marine or equipment coverage, not auto coverage. A trailer you borrow or rent may need its own endorsement, so ask before you hook one up.
Wildlife, slow farm equipment and narrow shoulders are part of driving here. Comprehensive coverage is the part of an auto policy that usually pays when your truck hits a deer, depending on the policy.
County and contractor jobs
As the county seat, Brooksville sees a steady stream of public and commercial work. Government owners and general contractors usually want a certificate of insurance before you start, often with specific limits, additional insured status and a waiver of subrogation.
Send us the contract or bid package before you sign or bid, so your price includes the coverage the job requires. A certificate can only show what the policy includes. Owners may also check that coverage stays active through the whole job, so tell us right away if you get a cancellation or late payment notice. Our certificate guide explains the common requests.
Drivers for heavy work
Carriers that write dump trucks and mixers look hard at drivers: commercial license class, years in the same kind of truck, and any accidents or violations in the last three to five years. A clean driver who is new to heavy trucks may still be hard to place. Send driver details before anyone new gets behind the wheel.
Written safety habits help too: pre-trip inspections, load securement checks and a rule on phone use. Tell us what you already do, because some carriers give it weight. If a driver gets a ticket or has a crash during the year, let us know early so we can plan for the renewal.
Serving Brooksville and nearby communities
We work with businesses in Brooksville and nearby Ridge Manor, Spring Hill, Weeki Wachee and, across the Pasco line, San Antonio and Dade City.
To start a quote, send your truck and trailer list with VINs, weights and values, your drivers, your loss runs, what you haul and any contract requirements. If you are bidding a job that needs more trucks than you run now, call before you bid. Call or text 813-302-7151.
What businesses in Hernando County pay for insurance
These ranges come from real quotes our agency has run for businesses across Hernando County, which includes Brooksville. Prices are annual and include taxes and fees. Your price can land outside them, because vehicles, drivers, payroll and claims usually matter more than the ZIP code. We don’t have enough local commercial auto quotes to publish a county range yet, so use the per-vehicle ranges in our cost guide.

I haul rock from the quarries around Brooksville. What do carriers need?
Expect questions about the trucks and their weights, your drivers’ experience, how many loads you run and whether you haul for others. Loss runs from prior policies help a lot. The insurer decides eligibility and price after underwriting.
Does my truck's weight change the limit I need?
Yes. Florida Statutes s. 627.7415 sets higher minimum liability limits as gross vehicle weight goes up, and federal rules may apply to some trucks. Send us each truck’s weight so we can match the limit.
Does my auto policy cover the skid steer on my trailer?
Usually not. The trailer should be listed on the auto policy, but the skid steer itself is usually covered under an inland marine or equipment policy.
What pays if my truck hits a deer?
Damage to your own truck from hitting an animal usually falls under comprehensive coverage, subject to the deductible and policy terms. Liability alone does not pay for your own truck.
I work at the airport technology center. Does that change anything?
It may. If your vehicles go onto the airfield or near aircraft, tell us, since some policies handle that differently. Your lease may also have its own insurance requirements.
