A river city on U.S. 19
Port Richey is a small city in west Pasco County where the Pithlachascotee River, the Cotee to most people, reaches the Gulf. U.S. 19 carries most of its traffic and most of its businesses: repair shops, tow companies, contractors, restaurants and marine services. If your business depends on a truck or van, that highway is where it spends the day.
Our office is in Wesley Chapel, on the other side of Pasco County, and we work with Port Richey owners by phone, text and video. We compare quotes from the insurance companies we work with and explain the differences in plain words.
Up and down U.S. 19 all day
Most Port Richey work runs north and south on U.S. 19 between Holiday and Hudson, with stop-and-go traffic and a lot of turning in and out of plazas. Some crews head east on Ridge Road or S.R. 52 for jobs inland. Tell us your usual radius, where each vehicle parks at night and whether anyone drives a work vehicle home.
Common local trades include contractors, auto repair shops, cleaning companies and towing.
Flood risk and where your vehicles park
The City of Port Richey says most of the city is in a flood zone, and most of it falls in Evacuation Level A, the highest level, including homes along the river and west of U.S. 19. After Hurricane Helene in September 2024, Bay Boulevard was still flooded the next afternoon, and the National Weather Service measured water about 5 feet above the usual high tide at nearby New Port Richey.
A work van parked in a low driveway can be a total loss in a storm like that. Flood damage to your own vehicle is usually paid only if it carries comprehensive coverage. Give us the real overnight address for each vehicle, and plan early where you will move trucks when a storm is coming.
One vehicle or a mixed fleet
Port Richey fleets range from one owner-driven pickup to service vans, box trucks and tow trucks. Shops that move customer cars should also review garagekeepers and garage liability, because a customer’s car is usually not covered by the shop’s own auto policy.
Supply runs in personal cars
Restaurants and marine shops near the river often send an employee out in their own car for supplies, parts or a quick delivery. If that employee causes a crash, the business can be pulled into the claim. Hired and non-owned auto coverage is made for that situation, and many small businesses with no company vehicle can buy it.
Storm repair jobs and proof of insurance
Storm repair work often comes with paperwork. A homeowner, property manager or general contractor may ask for a certificate of insurance before you start, sometimes with higher limits or their name added to your policy. Send us the request early. A certificate can only show coverage your policy already has, and some changes need the insurance company’s approval.
Heavier trucks need more liability
Tow trucks, dump trucks and larger box trucks can cross the weight lines in Florida Statutes s. 627.7415. The law requires at least $50,000 of liability coverage for a commercial vehicle of 26,000 to under 35,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, at least $100,000 for 35,000 to under 44,000 pounds, and at least $300,000 for 44,000 pounds and up, with bodily injury and property damage combined per accident. These are legal minimums, and many customers and contracts ask for more.
Serving Port Richey and nearby communities
We also work with businesses in New Port Richey just up the river, plus Hudson, Holiday and Trinity. Call or text 813-302-7151 with your vehicles, your drivers and the kind of work you do.
What businesses in Pasco County pay for insurance
These ranges come from real quotes our agency has run for businesses across Pasco County, which includes Port Richey. Prices are annual and include taxes and fees. Your price can land outside them, because vehicles, drivers, payroll and claims usually matter more than the ZIP code.

Will my work truck be covered if it floods in a storm?
Only if it carries comprehensive coverage. Liability alone pays for damage you cause to others, not for your own truck. Check before hurricane season, because many insurance companies stop adding or changing coverage once a named storm is on the way.
Does my shop’s auto policy cover customer cars?
Usually not. Damage to customer cars in your care is normally handled by garagekeepers coverage, and driving them on the road may need garage liability. Review both if you park, repair or test-drive customer cars.
Does commercial auto cover tools stolen from my van?
Not automatically. The auto policy covers the van, not what is inside it. Tools and equipment usually need separate coverage, often called inland marine.
My employee uses his own car to pick up supplies. Do I need anything?
It is worth looking at hired and non-owned auto coverage. The employee’s personal policy usually pays first, but the business can be sued if the damage goes beyond that. This coverage helps protect the business in that case.
Can my tow truck and service van be on the same policy?
Often, but not always. Some insurance companies write tow trucks only on a separate policy, and coverage for the cars you tow (on-hook) is priced on top. We will show you both options side by side.
