Reviews reflect individual customer opinions and experiences. They do not guarantee specific coverage, pricing, service timing, or claim outcomes.
The Medicare Advantage plan your neighbor likes may not include your specialist or cover your prescription the same way. Florida options depend on your county and the plan year, so a recommendation has to start with your own information.
We compare the medical network, drug coverage and likely expenses before looking at dental allowances or other extras.
How Medicare Advantage works
Medicare Advantage, also called Part C, is offered by private insurers approved by Medicare. It provides your Part A and Part B benefits through the plan, and most plans include Part D prescription coverage. You must have both Part A and Part B and live in the plan’s service area.
You still pay your Part B premium when you join a Medicare Advantage plan. For 2026, the standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month, and people with higher incomes pay more. We update this page when the new figures are published.
The plan sets its own copays and coinsurance and a yearly limit on what you pay for covered Part A and Part B services. You will find that limit in the plan’s Summary of Benefits. Weigh it next to the premium: in a year with a hospital stay or surgery, a $0 premium plan with a high limit can cost more than a plan with a premium and a lower limit. Drug costs are tracked separately under Part D rules: what you pay out of pocket for covered Part D drugs stops at $2,100 in 2026 and $2,400 in 2027.
| Medicare figure | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Part B premium (you pay this even with a $0 premium plan) | $202.90 a month | Not published yet |
| Part B deductible | $283 | Not published yet |
| Part D out-of-pocket cap on covered drugs | $2,100 | $2,400 |
HMO vs PPO vs Special Needs Plans
An HMO generally directs routine care to its network and often requires a primary doctor and specialist referrals. Emergency care, out-of-area urgent care and certain dialysis services have exceptions. Some HMO-POS plans offer limited out-of-network benefits.
A PPO generally permits covered out-of-network care at a higher member cost, but the doctor still has to agree to see you and bill the plan. Special Needs Plans serve defined eligible groups. A C-SNP requires a qualifying chronic condition; a D-SNP involves eligibility for both Medicare and Medicaid.
Extra benefits: dental, vision, hearing, OTC
Review the benefit's limits, participating providers and approval rules. Dental coverage may distinguish cleanings from crowns or dentures. Hearing benefits may use a particular supplier. An OTC allowance may cover only approved products at designated retailers.
An advertised card is not unrestricted cash. Eligibility, spending categories and unused-balance rules can differ. Compare extras only after confirming the medical and prescription coverage you rely on.
Checking your doctors and prescriptions
We check the exact plan and network, not just the insurer's name. Give us your doctor's office location and include specialists, hospitals, labs and any ongoing treatment. When a directory entry is unclear, we verify with the plan.
For prescriptions, we review strength, quantity, tier, pharmacy and authorization requirements. A drug on the formulary can still require approval or cost more at a nonpreferred pharmacy. Ask about ongoing authorizations before switching.
What is different in Florida
Plans and networks change from county to county. A plan sold in Hillsborough may not be sold in Pasco, or may use a different list of doctors and hospitals there. Always compare plans by your ZIP code and county, and check again if you move within Florida.
If you live in Florida only part of the year, check the plan’s service area before you enroll. Your permanent address must be in it. Outside the service area, Medicare Advantage plans generally cover emergency and urgent care, not routine visits. If you spend months up north, ask whether the plan has a travel or visitor benefit, and read that part of the Evidence of Coverage.
For free, unbiased help, Florida has SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). It is run by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs with local Area Agencies on Aging, and trained volunteers give one-on-one Medicare counseling. Call 1-800-96-ELDER (1-800-963-5337) or visit Florida SHINE.
When you can join or switch
The fall Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, with changes starting January 1. People already in Medicare Advantage also have a Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31. It allows certain changes and is not a general enrollment window for everyone.
First becoming eligible, moving or certain coverage changes may create other enrollment opportunities. Confirm which period applies and the new start date before ending your current coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best Medicare Advantage plans in Florida?
There is no single best plan for everyone in Florida. The best plan for you is the one in your county that works with your doctors, prescriptions and budget.
Are $0 premium Medicare Advantage plans real?
Yes, some plans charge no monthly plan premium, but you still pay your Part B premium. For 2026, the standard Part B premium is $202.90 a month. You also still pay copays, coinsurance and drug costs when you use care.
Can I see any doctor with Medicare Advantage?
No. HMOs generally require network doctors, and PPOs cost more out of network. Check the provider under the exact plan before you schedule routine care.
When can I switch Medicare Advantage plans?
Most people switch during the fall Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 to December 7. People already in Medicare Advantage can make certain changes from January 1 to March 31, and some life events open a Special Enrollment Period.
What is a D-SNP?
A Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan is a Medicare Advantage plan for people with Medicare and qualifying Medicaid eligibility. State and plan requirements apply.
Do Medicare Advantage plans cover dental?
Many offer some dental benefits, but covered services, provider networks and annual limits differ. Read the dental benefit details.
