We serve clients across Florida and work with multiple insurance carriers to help individuals, families, and business owners compare coverage options that fit their state and industry requirements.
Reviews reflect individual customer opinions and experiences. They do not guarantee specific coverage, pricing, service timing, or claim outcomes.
Covered by Guzman is an independent insurance agency based in Wesley Chapel, Florida, working with business owners across Tampa Bay, Central Florida, and the rest of the state on the commercial insurance their operation needs: commercial auto, general liability, workers’ compensation, property, tools and equipment, and the related coverages that come with running a business.
We are a local agency. When you call or text 813-302-7151 you reach someone who knows Florida commercial insurance and can walk you through what each policy does and does not cover, in plain language, without steering you toward something you do not need.
A captive agent works for one insurance company and can offer that company’s products at that company’s rates. An independent agent compares what is actually available across the carriers they have access to. The practical difference shows up when a business is not a perfect risk, which is most of them.
A recent claim, a younger driver on the roster, a lapse in coverage, a new venture with no prior insurance, or a higher-hazard trade can make one carrier decline and another quote normally. Access to more than one carrier is the main reason to work with an independent agency, and it matters again at renewal when markets shift and the carrier that was competitive two years ago no longer is.
Most of our clients are owner-operators, small crews, and growing local companies rather than large corporations. We know the contract demands that are common in this part of Florida, which customers ask for additional-insured status as a matter of routine, and how quickly a certificate needs to move to keep a job on schedule.
If you run a business anywhere in Florida, we can very likely help. And if we are not the right fit for your operation, we will tell you that too.
Who we are
Covered by Guzman was started to give business owners a straight answer about what their insurance does. Too many commercial policies get sold on price alone, and the gaps only surface at claim time, or at audit time, when it is far too late to fix them.
We work through the details up front. What the business does, who performs the work, which vehicles are used, what tools and property are involved, and what your contracts obligate you to carry. Those answers drive nearly every part of a commercial auto, general liability, or workers’ compensation quote, and a wrong answer can leave a policy that does not respond when you need it.
We are licensed in Florida and serve eligible businesses throughout the state, with local roots in Zephyrhills and Wesley Chapel and most of our clients across Pasco, Hillsborough, and Polk counties.
What we do
We help Florida business owners review and coordinate the coverages a working business needs. Commercial auto is where we started and it is still our specialty, but a vehicle is usually only one part of the risk.
That means commercial auto for box trucks, cargo vans, work trucks, dump trucks, trailers, and small fleets; general liability for the work performed at customer locations and after the job is finished; workers’ compensation for crews and employees; commercial property and business owner’s policies; tools and equipment coverage; hired and non-owned auto; motor truck cargo; and commercial umbrella. The commercial insurance page explains how these fit together.
It also means the paperwork side that business owners actually deal with day to day: certificates of insurance, additional-insured requests, waivers of subrogation, loss-payee endorsements, payroll audits, and the contract language customers hand you before a job starts.
Eligible business owners can also ask us to review homeowners and personal auto insurance, so one agency relationship covers both the business and the household. Those policies are quoted and underwritten separately.
We are happy to review an existing policy even if you are not ready to move.
Why business owners work with us
We are an independent agency, so we compare options from the carriers available to you rather than representing a single company. Our focus is contractors and service businesses, which means the questions we ask are the ones that actually change your rate and your eligibility.
We are local to Tampa Bay and know the contract demands common in this area. We treat certificates of insurance as urgent, because a delayed certificate can hold up a job, and we tell you what is realistic once we have reviewed the requirements. You can call, text, or submit a request anytime; we review the information and follow up promptly.
Most of all, we match coverage to how the business operates. When something is not worth buying, we will tell you.
How we work
The first conversation is usually short. We ask what the business does, who does the work, what you drive, and what your contracts require. From there we can tell you roughly where you will land and what is likely to move the number.
Then we compare what is available and come back with options rather than a single take-it-or-leave-it quote. You see what each one covers, where the limits and deductibles sit, and what the tradeoffs are between them. Placement, pricing, and timing remain subject to carrier underwriting.
Our work continues after the policy is bound. Certificates, driver and employee changes, vehicle and equipment additions, payroll audits, and renewal reviews are all part of the service, and they are handled by the same person you spoke to originally.
What we insure
The easiest place to start is the coverage you were asked for, the vehicle you run, or the trade you are in. All three lead to the same conversation.
On the coverage side we help with Commercial Auto, General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, commercial property and business owner’s policies, tools and equipment, Hired and Non-Owned Auto, motor truck cargo, and commercial umbrella, plus homeowners and personal auto for eligible business owners.
On the vehicle side we write Box Truck, Cargo Van, Pickup Truck, Dump Truck, Food Truck, Flatbed Truck, Tow Truck and Service and Utility Truck. On the trade side we work with landscapers, general contractors, courier and delivery services, cleaning companies, pest control operators, painters, HVAC contractors, gutter installers, fence installers, electricians, concrete contractors, tree services, roofers, pool services and plumbers, and many others besides.
You can browse everything on our commercial insurance, commercial vehicles, and industries we serve pages. If what you run is not listed, call 813-302-7151 and we will tell you honestly whether we can place it.
The independent agent advantage
A captive agent works for one insurance company and can only offer that company’s product. As an independent agency affiliated with Mesa Insurance Agency, we compare what is available across the carriers Mesa has access to, for auto, liability, workers’ compensation, and property alike.
The practical difference shows up when a business is not a perfect risk. A recent claim, a young driver, a lapse in coverage, a new venture, or a higher-hazard trade such as roofing or tree work can make one carrier decline and another quote normally.
It also matters at renewal. Markets shift, appetites change, and the carrier that was competitive two years ago may not be today. We re-check the market at each renewal.
Certificates and ongoing service
Most business owners need certificates of insurance far more often than they expect, and usually with very little notice.
A property manager wants proof of general liability before crews come on site. A general contractor wants to be named as additional insured and wants to see workers’ compensation for your crew. A lender wants to appear as loss payee on the truck. Each of these is routine, but each one can hold up work if it is not handled quickly.
We treat certificate requests as urgent because for you they usually are. A certificate can only reflect coverage that is actually in force, and requested endorsements must be supported by the policy and carrier, so send the complete requirements as early as you can and we will tell you what is realistic.
Our service commitment
We answer the phone. We explain coverage in language that makes sense without an insurance background. We tell you when something is not worth buying, even when selling it would be easier.
We also try to be realistic about price. Commercial insurance in Florida is not cheap, and no agent can change the market. What we can do is make sure you are not paying for coverage that does nothing for your operation, and that you are not missing the coverage that would actually respond.
Getting a quote
Call or text 813-302-7151 or request a quote online. Either way the process is the same.
We will ask what the business does, about your vehicles and drivers, your employees and subcontractors, your payroll and revenue, and your prior coverage history. Having a copy of your current declarations pages helps, as does any contract language that specifies limits you are required to carry. From there we compare options and come back to you with what is available.
There is no charge for the conversation and no obligation attached to it.
