About Temple Terrace

Temple Terrace is its own city, incorporated in 1925 and the smallest of Hillsborough County’s three cities. Inside, it is quiet, green and full of older homes. Its edges are busy: the University of South Florida next door, Fowler Avenue and 56th Street carrying traffic all day, and the Hillsborough River along part of the southern boundary.

We are an independent agency based in Wesley Chapel. We help Temple Terrace businesses compare commercial auto from several carriers and explain the options in plain language, so you know what you are buying before you sign.

Fowler Avenue and 56th Street

Fowler Avenue carries a lot of university and commuter traffic, and the city and USF are working with FDOT on improvements along that corridor. The city has also been redeveloping its downtown area along 56th Street, from Bullard Parkway to the river, with new apartments and shops.

For work vehicles, that means short trips with stop-and-go traffic, turn lanes and crowded parking lots. Tell the carrier how many stops you make in a day and where you park at each one. A van that spends the day in apartment parking lots has different risks than one that drives the interstate.

With I-75 close by, many Temple Terrace businesses also take jobs all over Tampa Bay. Count those trips when you estimate your radius.

Apartment and property service work

With USF next door and new apartment buildings downtown, a lot of local work is property service: maintenance techs, painters, HVAC, appliance repair, movers and cleaning companies. These businesses often run a few vans or pickups and send them to many units a day.

Property management companies usually require a certificate of insurance and often want to be named as additional insured. Send us their vendor requirements early, because some requests need a policy endorsement before the certificate can show them.

Many management companies also check certificates again at renewal. Keep us in the loop so a new certificate goes out as soon as your policy renews.

Carrying people or just equipment

Some local businesses carry passengers: shuttle vans, church or group vans, or home care workers who drive clients to appointments. Carrying people is rated very differently from carrying tools, and carriers ask about seating capacity, who rides and whether anyone pays for the ride.

If any of your vehicles carry passengers, say so up front. Our passenger van page explains what carriers look at. Leaving passengers off the application can create a serious problem if there is ever an accident with people on board.

Home care agencies should also tell us whether caregivers use their own cars or company vehicles for client trips. The answer changes which policy responds first.

Employee cars and rentals

Small offices in Temple Terrace often send employees out in their own cars: to the bank, the supply store or a client’s office. If one of them causes an accident on a work errand, the business can be pulled into the claim too. The employee’s personal policy usually responds first, but its limits may be low.

Hired and non-owned auto coverage may help protect the business when employees drive their own vehicles for work or when you rent one. It can often be added to a commercial auto policy, and some carriers offer it even to businesses that own no vehicles at all.

If you rent a cargo van for a move or a big job, ask about damage to the rental itself before you sign the rental agreement. That is a separate question from liability.

Leased vans and lenders

If a vehicle is financed or leased, the lender or leasing company will usually require collision and comprehensive coverage and want to be listed on the policy as loss payee or additional insured. Send us the lease or loan paperwork so the policy lists them correctly.

A missing loss payee can lead to a warning letter from the lender, or to the lender buying expensive coverage on its own and adding it to your loan. It is an easy fix when you catch it at the start.

When you pay a vehicle off, tell us too. The lender comes off the policy, and you can decide whether to keep full coverage on an older van.

Limits, tools and the river

Pick liability limits based on what you could lose, not just the minimum. Property managers and commercial customers may set their own required limits too, and those often run higher than what a new business starts with. We can quote a few limits side by side.

Tools and inventory in a van generally need inland marine or property coverage, not commercial auto. And if you park vehicles in low areas near the Hillsborough River, keep in mind that flood damage to a vehicle is usually a comprehensive coverage question. Check which vehicles carry it before storm season.

Serving Temple Terrace and nearby communities

We work with businesses in Temple Terrace and nearby Tampa, Lutz, Brandon and Seffner.

To start a quote, send us the business name and what you do, driver names with dates of birth and license numbers, VINs, where each vehicle parks overnight, whether any carry passengers, your usual work area, and any vendor or lease requirements. The insurer decides eligibility and price after underwriting, and we will explain the differences between the quotes we get back. If you are missing a detail, send what you have and we will fill in the rest together.

What businesses in Hillsborough County pay for insurance

These ranges come from real quotes our agency has run for businesses across Hillsborough County, which includes Temple Terrace. Prices are annual and include taxes and fees. Your price can land outside them, because vehicles, drivers, payroll and claims usually matter more than the ZIP code.

  • General liability$300 to $6,000 / yearAbout $25 to $500 a month.
  • Commercial auto, whole policy$1,000 to $42,000 / yearAbout $80 to $3,500 a month.
  • Workers' compensation$600 to $6,500 / yearAbout $50 to $550 a month.
  • Business owner's policy$400 to $16,000 / yearAbout $30 to $1,350 a month.
  • Commercial property$700 to $8,000 / yearAbout $55 to $670 a month.
  • Professional liability$200 to $2,500 / yearAbout $15 to $210 a month.

For ranges by coverage, vehicle and business type, see our Florida commercial insurance cost guide. For your real number, call or text 813-302-7151. Commercial property and business owner's policies in Florida usually carry a separate hurricane deductible that is not reflected in these prices.

A property manager wants additional insured status. Can you add it?

Often, yes, if the carrier offers the endorsement. Send us the vendor requirements, and we will confirm and send the certificate once the endorsement is on the policy.

My employees drive their own cars for errands. Do I need coverage?

Consider hired and non-owned auto coverage. The employee’s personal policy usually responds first, but the business can still be named in a lawsuit, and personal limits may not be enough.

Does a Temple Terrace address cost more than Tampa?

It depends on how each carrier draws its rating territories by ZIP code. Drivers, vehicles, use and claims usually matter more than which side of the city line you park on.

My van is leased. What does the leasing company need?

Many leasing companies require collision and comprehensive with set deductibles and want to be listed on the policy. Send the lease so we can match it exactly.

We drive clients to appointments. Is that a problem?

No, but it must be on the application. Carrying people is rated differently, and some carriers do not write it, so we will send it to the ones that do.
